Weddings in 2020 were, by necessity, intimate affairs, and this beautiful St. Eugene’s Church wedding in Santa Rosa was no exception. Photographed during the pandemic, this small Catholic wedding took place just outside the church walls, with only close family in attendance—about 20 to 25 guests in total. The church held deep meaning for the family, with generations having celebrated their own celebrations and St. Eugene’s church weddings.
The reception was originally planned for De Turk Round Barn in Santa Rosa, a venue I had been especially excited to photograph. However, due to COVID restrictions, those plans changed. Instead, the couple hosted a warm and intimate gathering at their grandparents’ home, which offered stunning views of the Sonoma Mountains. Katherine’s aunt, a caterer, along with her children, prepared and served an incredible five-course meal that made the evening even more special.
Katherine and Jeremy had initially planned a destination wedding in France, where they met, and their family had eagerly made travel arrangements. But as the pandemic unfolded, plans shifted—three times, in fact—before they ultimately chose to celebrate in California.
Despite all the changes, the couple incorporated thoughtful details that honored their original vision. Destination-inspired elements were included in the place settings, adding a personal touch. The wedding was beautifully coordinated by Lura Albee of Extraordinary Weddings & Events, who worked closely with the couple from afar while they were still in France.
The reception décor featured elegant florals in a green and gold palette, creating a timeless and romantic atmosphere. One particularly meaningful detail was the wedding cake display, set against a backdrop of framed wedding photos from generations of family members—a tradition that will surely continue with Katherine and Jeremy’s own photo added to the collection. The evening ended with a romantic last dance in the front courtyard, a perfect close to a heartfelt and unforgettable day.
